A. Patent 
1. New applications for all three types of patents came down by 3.32% to 16,649 cases.
2. Inventions (10,306) and utility models (4,551) decreased by 2.08% and 7.07%. Designs (1,792) were slightly down by 0.39% (Table 1).
3. Inventions by residents (3,505) dropped 11.65% but jumped 3.71% for non-residents (6,801) (Table 1).
4. By country, Japan (3,375) came on top, followed by the US (1,645), South Korea (416), Germany (313), and China (264) (Fig.1).
5. The top five domestic corporations filing new invention patents were AU Optronics (74), Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) (53), Acer (50), Hon Hai (48), and Ability Opto-Electronics Technology (38) (Fig.2). 
6. In foreign corporations, Intel (151) came on top, followed by Qualcomm (150), Toshiba (122), Semiconductor Energy Laboratory (105), and Hewlett-Packard Development Company (90) (Fig.2).
7. Inventions by domestic corporations (2,467) and universities (310) were down 13.65% and 23.46%, respectively. National Tsing Hua University came on top with 27 applications. Domestic individual applicants (601) and research institutes (127), contrarily, saw 1.18% and 14.41% growth, respectively (Table 3, Fig. 2, Fig.3).
 
B. Patent Grants 
1. There is a 0.37% increase for all three types (19,093) (Table 4).
2. Inventions (12,553) and designs (1,866) increased by 4.36% and 10.55%, respectively. However, utility models (4,674) fell 11.93% (Table 4).
3. Inventions granted to residents (5,243) fell 3.48% but were up 10.82% for non-residents (7,310) (Table 4).
4. By country, Japan (3,221) came out on top, followed by the US (2,168), South Korea (479), China (307), and Germany (280) (Fig.4).
5. The top five domestic corporations being granted the most inventions were ITRI (192), AU Optronics (176), TSMC (169), Wistron (167), and United Microelectronics (100) (Fig.5).
6. The top five foreign corporations (being granted the most inventions) were Intel (247), Semiconductor Energy Laboratory (222), Tokyo Electron (131), Qualcomm (118) and Apple (106) (Fig.5).
 
C. Trademark
1. New applications (18,033) grew by 3.76% (Table 1).
2. Resident and non-resident applications totaled at 12,890 (+2.06%) and 5,143 (+8.30%) cases, respectively (Table 1).
3. By country, China (1,110) came out on top, followed by the US (966), Japan (879), Hong Kong (361), and South Korea (317) (Fig.1).
