With the evolution of computer software and hardware, the changes to international review standard in this technology area and the gradual accumulation of topics in this practice area, after formulation in 1998 and revision in 2008, the most up-to-date version of 2014 Computer Software Related Invention Review Standard is now promulgated.

This revision is mainly to clarify the examination standard and to precipitate its consistency.  In the meantime, it aims to provide criteria for judgment with respect to the question of whether it is consistent with the definition of invention in the computer software related invention, including pure information disclosure and and the simple use of computer.  Furthermore, through the progressive illustration of cases, this revision aims to help the applicants and the examiners understand the technicality of application cases.

For claims defined by use and function terms, it makes clear the disclosure obligation in the description so as to  comply with the requirements for the realization of the description and the explicity of cliams.

In addition, in the part of examination of non-obviousness, the determination of characteristics helpless in the technicality is newly added so as to avoid the grant of a patent due to nontechnical characteristics which goes against the spirit for the establishment of a patent system.
